Ashley Reiter- About me & Reflection
Hey! My name is Ashley Reiter. I’m a first year Interior Design student at the University of Oklahoma. My goal is to design for Senior Living communities. I want to help create a lasting impact in the lives of those living in retirement or assisted living facilities. The purpose of my blog is to share my journey through my Foundations of Interior Design class. My goal for this project is to have a place to easily look back on and remember all the great insight I learned from professionals in the field. While also sharing my journey with others along the way.
This semester in interior design has honestly taught me way more than I thought it would. When I first signed up for this program, I had a super basic idea of what interior design was. I knew it was more than I choosing cute furniture, pretty colors, and cool fabrics that I’ve seen on Pinterest. But I didn’t really get what goes into it. I never knew before that it has so many different parts. It’s been especially helpful to learn from real world professionals. It has helped me see how it’s like a machine with many parts. I love how it is not a one man show. This semester I learned about space planning, how lighting completely changes a room, picking the right materials, sustainability, building codes, budgeting, figuring out what clients want not what I want, and all the technical things like doing proper drawings and using software. It’s crazy how everything has to connect for a space to actually work and feel perfect.
