Abbie Seay- The life of a Design Rep
Her day-to-day consists of design translating, budgeting, logistics, and problem-solving. When a spec is finalized thenshe will start her process. Her job in a nut shell is transforming renderings into furniture orders. All furniture goes through her. This means every chair, desk, panel, and accessory gets its exact finish code, and fabric approved by her. She tracks freights, coordinates warehousing if the job site isn’t ready yet, schedules the installation crew, and walks the punch list to make sure nothing arrived damaged or wrong. If a product is discontinued mid-project then she’s the one looking for alternatives that match grade, size, and color without messing up the schedule, but that’s not all her job consists of. She also helps choose lighting and flooring. She also included how she will help clients choose finishes so she truly still does design. Her presentation really helped me understand a design rep’s approach and job. She also really helped me understand furniture in a real world way which I was super interested in!
